Pantone is a global leader in color and science technology and provides professional color standards for the design trades. For 15 years, Pantone’s color of the year has influenced product design, development, and packaging across a wide range of industries. The color is already making its way into clothing collections, cosmetics, accessories and home furnishings.
You may be wondering how Pantone decides which hue will set the tone for the year. According to the Executive Director, PCI (Pantone Color Institute) combs the world looking for future design and color influences, watching out for that one color seen as ascending and building in importance through all creative sectors. Influences can include technology, the entertainment industry, upcoming films, art, emerging artists, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.
What color is Marsala? It is considered to be a naturally robust and earthy red wine hue with red-brown roots. Marsala pairs well with neutrals like warm taupe and greys. Because of its burnished undertones, Marsala also complements metallic shades of gold and bronze, and shades of blue in royal and navy.
Pantone predicts Marsala will be especially prominent in striping and floral patterns found in upholstery fabric, rugs, table linens, bedding and dishware. Homeowners can add elegance to any room by incorporating this rich hue in accent pieces, accessories and paint.
